Interfaith Service at FUMCO Tonight at 7:00pm
The Interfaith Council of Central Florida is organizing—and First United Methodist Church of Orlando (142 East Jackson Street, Orlando, FL 32801) is hosting—an Interfaith Service of Prayer and Compassion at 7:00 pm tonight, Tuesday, June 14, at FUMCO. The event will include participation by representatives of the Baha’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Humanist, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and Unitarian Universalist traditions. “Orlando is a city of rich diversity,” says James Coffin, Executive Director of the Interfaith Council of Central Florida. “This service provides a venue where those reflecting that rich diversity can gather under one roof to reflect upon the tragedy we’ve collectively faced so we can find strength and inspiration as, together, we work to bring healing and wholeness to our community.” The public—whether of faith or no faith—is invited. Counseling at Meetings of Gay Youth Groups
The Orlando Youth Alliance (OYA), a nonprofit organization founded in 1990, has the mission of providing a safe space for GLBTQ youth in Central Florida. In the wake of the massacre in Orlando on June 12, OYA and its companion regional organizations will have a licensed counselor at each group meeting through the end of June. The groups and meeting times are: Orlando Youth Alliance meets on Tuesdays from 6:15 to 7:15 pm at Reeves Methodist Church, Room 19, 1100 North Fern Creek Avenue, Orlando, FL 32803. Christian Service to Be Conducted at First Baptist
A city-wide Christian service is being conducted tonight in response to the June 12 killings. “The Body of Christ will be gathering Tuesday, June 14th at First Baptist Orlando at 7:00 p.m. to stand together in prayer to support the families, our civic leaders and the city.” First Baptist Orlando is located at 3000 South John Young Pkwy., Orlando, FL 32805. Hindus to Conduct Prayer Service on June 15
The Hindu Society of Central Florida will conduct a Shanti Puja in response to the Orlando killings of June 12. The Shanti Puja will be held at the HSCF Temple (1994 Lake Drive, Casselberry FL 32707) on Wednesday, June 15, from 7.30 to 8.30 pm. The event will include: a brief announcement as to why we are gathered, a short Ganesh Ji invocation, a reading and explanation of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 2, reciting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 11 times, reciting the Gayatri Mantra 11 times, reciting the Shanti Path Mantra 11 times, closing prayer.
